Comments:
The only problem here is that there are a couple of female broadcasters here who refuse to shut up. They blab, and blab, and blab all the way thru this recording. Sometimes they even talk over some of the songs. They just refuse to shut up. The audio is awesome, though. Well worth adding to your collection. The two bonus tracks from the Arsenio Hall Show are pretty rare, too. BONUS!!!

the source of this tape is thrilled to share this copy and said its the one used to record the excellent fm broadcast it sounds bright and full and smokes throughout the show. the only place one notices any hiss is during the dj comments, which have been cut into their own tracks. the two sides were spliced during foxy lady, so their is a slight cut there
as it was flipped on the fly. dont let that deter you from this wonderful show that turned out being ray's swan song in chicago and one of the final performances of his all too brief career. 9-9.5/10 part of the unconcert series. this source was broadcast 1985, sometime after the concert had already been held.

This is the same show as "Retro Rock" however this has the songs in the right order and no fake audience pumped in. You can tell from the between song banter. Wildly esoteric setlist here and the performance is dyn-o-mite. You can hear a bit of lp noise between tracks like before Turn The page - it is pretty much of a non-issue though.

Notes by the uploader
well, kids, if these magnetic fragments don't beat all. lotsa epiphanies are in store if you haven't heard these ditties yet. Hell, fool on the avenue alone is worth the price of remission (sic). I've been across this country, from Denver to the ocean and I've yet to find some of these thangs - to wit, the maryland boogies - available anywhere else. If anyone out there has a couple of degrees in bebop and thinks that certain tracks might vex DaD's legal dept., rest up, good buddy and take a load off. Research has been done and ain't no one to be offended by the renditions being offered herein. Lowell George, slide guitarist, songwriter and founder of Little Feat, was born on April 13, 1945, in Hollywood, California. As a child, Lowell appeared with his brother on Ted Macks, "Original Amateur Hour," performing a harmonic duet. Lowell also learned to play oboe and baritone saxaphone and played the instruments for Frank Sinatra sessions. In the late 60's, Lowell joined Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention where he met Roy Estrada. In 1969, Lowell and Roy formed Little Feat with Bill Payne and Richie Hayward. After the band's second album, Sailin' Shoes, Roy left the group and Paul Barrere, Kenny Gradney, and Sam Clayton were added. In 1979, Lowell announced he was leaving the band. He released a solo album, "Thanks I'll Eat It Here" and began a tour to promote it. On June 28, 1979, after a show at Lisner Auditorium, Washington, D.C., Lowell suffered a heart attack and died. He was 34 years old.

Notes: A very good, and underated show/performance from the group.
The band are playing quite well, and Plant's voice is on the mend from the flu he was suffering from at the beginning of the tour.
Nothing has beeen done to this recording in terms of remastering, EQ'ing, or noise/hiss reduction, all that has been done to this tape in terms of editing is some nescessary tape speed correction.
Originally the whole recording was running way too fast, and needed to be slowed down.
This is a pretty decent upgrade to alot of the previous versions/releases that have been released into circulation, I not only include bootleg versions in that comparisson, but low gen versions as well.
This version (compared to previous releases/transfers we've heard posted online), this version has alot more clarity and balance in the instruments and vocals than previous releases have, other ones I've heard have very muddy vocals, and a distorted sound to the instruments.
The improvement in sound could be due to the fact that the copying of the cassettes used in this release was done in the late 1980's (possibly before some deterioration set into the tapes), and the transfer to CD-R was done in the early 90's, or the transfer was done on good equipment.
However, like other versions of this show that have been posted online, this recording does have the excessive tape hiss in both channels, and the tape recorder hum, but it's not as dominant as it is on other releases.
Another fault of this recording is that it is incomplete, missing the very final encore of the night "What Is And What Should Never Be".
Some releases have this song, and others don't, this version does not have it.
There's been alot of debate about the legitimacy of this song actually being played as the final encore of the night, and whether or not it's actually from Aberdeen and not some other performance and recording, but the general consensus now is that the song was actually played that night.
During their winter 1973 tour of the U.K, the band added alot of material they had previously retired to their repetoire, possibly to spice things up, or reward a crowd they liked, examples of this are "Immigrant Song" from Bradford, (1-18-73), and "How Many More Times" from Southampton, (1-22-73).
So the idea of the band playing "What Is And What Should Never Be" at this point and time in their career isn't too strange...it's strange that it was played as the final encore because the song really doesn't have the weight and impact of being a "closing song", but that's on them.
For those that may not know, this show has an interesting story behind it's one and only bootleg release ("The A-15). When it was released by the TDOLZ label, it was mislabeled as being the groups performance in Rotterdam, Holland, on March, 11th, 1973, but that's false.
How it was discovered that this performance is actually Aberdeen is a mystery to me, but I think it was found out to be Aberdeen by a comment made by Plant during the show before the band plays "Heartbreaker".
He sounds like he's saying "Aberdeen" to the audience.

Charade represents the first silver release of the complete February 25th, 1977 Pavillion de Paris show on Pink Floyd’s Animals tour. Three previous silver titles released in the nineties featured the second half of the show, the songs from Wish You Were Here.
Shine On (Black Cat Records BC 25) released in 1992 from Australia ran about 5% too fast and was sourced from a high generation copy of the tape. Live Volume 2 (Joker Productions JOK-013-B) is another Australian release that is probably a remaster of Shine On.
“Shine On You Crazy Diamond (1-5)” fades out early and there are gaps between the songs, but has been described by collectors as “listenable.” Finally Paris 1977 (The Screaming Abdabs 091-014) is another release of the second half of the show on silver with the same issues as the others.
In the ensuing decade a lower generation copy of the show surfaced that offers the first half of the show and improved sound quality but missing “Have A Cigar” and “Wish You Were Here.”Charade uses an alternate tape to fill in the gaps to complete the show.
The sound quality is very good and clear with the emphasis on the higher frequencies. It lacks the dynamic live sound and bottom end of Funhouse on Siréne, which documents the opening show from this set. It does however capture the same spooky atmosphere. The Parisian audiences were much m more quiet and respectful to the musicians.
The American shows the following summer would be a different story with many good tapes ruined by drunken morons yelling over the tape. There are minor distortion issues and slight channel drops during the first half of “Sheep,” but the tape clears up nicely and the rest of the Animals material is excellently recorded.
At this point Floyd had been touring for a month with the new material and already developed a tight presentation. The tape captures very well the Psalm 23 section of the first song which on many tapes is buried in the mix. “Dogs” has a tremendous about of bite (no pun intended) and the audience like the barking dogs in the middle.
“Pigs (Three Different Ones)” builds to a tremendous climax. At 11:57 Waters shouts out “SIX….ONE” to indicate this is the sixteenth show of the world tour. Of all the songs in the set, this one is the most recently written and one gets the impression that, as Gilmour is spitting out these angry metallic riffs, that the audience is sitting there with mouths open in astonishment.
The second half of the show featuring the Wish You Were Here material is more well known. The sound becomes slightly more fuzzy during “Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-5,” but the playing again is very aggressive and Dick Parry’s saxophone squeaks a bit. What is somewhat noticable in the first half, but becomes more apparent in the second is that this is definitely a David Gilmour concert.
Despite the show being tightly choreographed to fit the visuals on the screen, Gilmour takes every opportunity to produce unique solos, riffs, and throwaway riffs to make this show all his own. Charade is packaged in a double slimline jewel case with dull finish paper inserts, limited to two hundred copies.

10. Worldwide Epiphany

Notes:
This is a binaural recording. Outside venue, some SBD problems, some static in speakers(Black Maria) at times. General crowd noise is low, the show drunk staggered up at one point and informed me that Todd is great, later he ended up face first in the sand, much to the peoples delight.
